Though the 2009 growing season presented certain challenges—from early shatter to late-season rain—attention to detail and site-specific techniques in the vineyards yielded a crop of high-quality fruit. This included aggressive leafing, an early thinning protocol and a heavy field sort to select only the most desirable grapes.

The Vintage
After a relatively dry winter, both budbreak and bloom came earlier than usual. The lower soil moisture meant that foliage growth was easily controlled and the grapes enjoyed ample sunshine during a beautiful summer with nearly ideal growing conditions. The cooler than usual weather in August and September slowed sugar accumulation resulting in typical harvest dates despite the early start to the season

The grapes for the 2007 Petit Verdot come from a choice 3-acre block of our Central Park West Vineyard. This vineyard, named in a nostalgic nod to the New York City origins of the Trinchero family, is located at the southern end of the St. Helena appellation. This vineyard is a level site with deep, loamy soils, good sun exposure and excellent air circulation—the ideal situation for producing classic Napa Valley Bordeaux varietals.
